چکیده

Orientation and temperature dependence of yield stress or CRSS (Critical Resolved Shear Stress) and tension/compression anisotropy of the yield stress or CRSS have been shown by Shah and Duhl (1), Heredia and Pope (2), and Miner et al. (3). Tension/compression asymmetry in the yield strength of Ni-based superalloys has been explained in terms of the “core width effect” (4). Shah and Duhl (5) observed the tension/compression asymmetry in creep deformation, which is similar to that observed in the yield strength, and indicated that it can be attributed to cross slip and dislocation core-constriction mechanisms associated with octahedral slip. However, little is known about the mechanism of tension/compression asymmetry in creep. In the present study, single crystals of a Ni-base superalloy were subjected to tensile and compressive creep tests. Tension/compression asymmetry in creep behavior was examined in detail for each orientation.

Crystallographic Orientation Influence on the Serrated Yielding Behavior of a Single-Crystal Superalloy

Since Ni-based single-crystal superalloys are anisotropic materials, their behavior in different crystal orientations is of great interest. In this study, the yielding behavior in both tension and compression for , and oriented materials at 500 °C has been investigated. The direction showed a serrated yielding behavior, a great tension/compression asymmetry in yield strength and visible deforma...

Simulation of Creep Crack Growth of a Directionally-solidified Ni-base Superalloy

Creep lifetime of turbine blade material subjected to sustained centrifugal forces at elevated temperatures is limited by accumulated inelastic deformation and creep crack growth (CCG). Creep resistance exhibited in conventionally cast polycrystalline (PC) Ni-base superalloy components has been enhanced via solidification techniques. Directional solidification (DS) results in large grain sizes ...

Fatigue-creep-environment Interactions in a Directionally-solidified Ni-base Superalloy

Directionally-solidified (DS) GTD-111 is a Ni-base superalloy designed to withstand damage occurring in the first and second stage blades of gas-powered turbines. Because of the distinctive microstructure of this material, the manner in which fatiguecreep-environment damage mechanisms interact to initiate cracks is sensitive to grain structure and chemical composition. Along with fatigue cyclin...

Synthesis, structure, and mechanical properties of Ni–Al and Ni–Cr–Al superalloy foams

Reticulated nickel foams were alloyed with 8–9 wt% Al or 14–18 wt% Cr and 5–9 wt% Al in a three-step method consisting of (i) gas-phase deposition of Cr and/or Al onto the struts of a pure Ni foam by pack-cementation at 1000 C; (ii) homogenization at 1200 C to remove concentration gradients and to solutionize the alloyed struts; (iii) aging at 900 C to form c0 precipitates within the struts. Th...

Evaluating the Effect of Ta/W Ratio on Microstructure and Stress Rupture Properties of Ni-Based Single Crystal Superalloy PWA1483

In this study, the effect of Ta/W ratio on the microstructure and stress rupture properties of Ni-based single crystal (SX) superalloy PWA1483 was investigated. For this purpose, single crystal (SX) superalloys with different Ta/W ratios (0.75, 1.0, 1.32 and 1.5 in wt.%) were fabricated. The alloys were directionally solidified by Bridgman method under the same solidification condition at withd...
